The 19th Annual James Houlik Saxophone Retreat
at Wildacres
Little Switzerland, North Carolina
June 20-27, 2009

The James Houlik Saxophone Retreat is a remarkable gathering of motivated saxophonists who come together to improve their performance skills, and to share a unique musical experience with like minded souls. The daily Retreat schedule includes clinic sessions, ensemble performance, master classes, and concerts. A strong emphasis is placed on assuring personal growth for every Retreat participant. In addition to James Houlik, the staff includes the members of the New Century Saxophone Quartet, and resident pianist Vahan Sargsyan. The Retreat has no age nor performance ability requirements but, as a rule, participants are usually at least at the intermediate level.

Wildacres is a secluded retreat, set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, near Little Switzerland, North Carolina. Participants are housed in modern comfortable hotel style lodges, and enjoy three delicious meals served daily in a lovely dining room with a delightful mountain view.

The James Houlik Saxophone Retreat has proven to be a unique learning experience in a serene setting. In addition to an intensive saxophone study opportunity, participants have ample time for fellowship and the enjoyment of mountain recreation opportunities. James Houlik elected to call his program a "retreat" because the name reflected his intention that it be intensive, that it touches and changes people musically as well as personally, and that it provides a productive escape from the distractions of daily life. And now, seventeen years later, hundreds of saxophonists have come to the mountains to celebrate the saxophone and to benefit from a one of a kind study experience.

Cost, which includes tuition, seven nights lodging, twenty meals, a t-shirt, and the Retreat group photo, is $570.00, all inclusive.
